The ISO initiative "AIDC Application in Industrial Construction" meets the research project "Robotics in Construction". While the ISO project is accompanied by the Eurodata Council Institute e.V. (EDCi), the Center Construction Robotics (CCR) consortium, together with RWTH-Aachen, closes the digital chain in construction from planning, through production, to realization.

Both projects are concerned with process optimization, as well as with traceability of products and elements used in construction.

For the achievement of synergetic effects, a cooperation between the CCR with their expertise in the field of "digitalization and automation on the construction site" and the Eurodata Council Institute e.V. (EDCi) with its expertise in barcode & RFID (AIDC) has been formed by a mutual cognition. The cooperation between CCR and EDCi on research and development "AIDC in construction" was agreed in December 2022.

The Eurodata Council Institute (EDCi) will take over the active participation in the standardization group "ISO/IEC JTC1/SC 31/WG 8 AIDC Applications" in connection with the corresponding committee of DIN e.V.

The cooperation partner CCR-Aachen will test the recommendations for the use of the AIDC technologies barcode and RFID, which are on the way to ISO standardization, examine them for efficiency and provide feedback on optimization.

The cooperation is to be included in the two research projects of the CCR "TARGET-X", funded by Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) within Horizon Europe and in the "EConoM" project, funded by BMDV.

The funding projects may be related to the EU efforts to achieve improvements and transparency for the circular economy. The European Framework Program "Circular Economy" also includes buildings and the development of the "Digital Product Passport (DPP)" will also become relevant for buildings.

EDCi has already done preliminary work for this with the analysis of solutions and with the development of the specification "AutoID URL 1.0" (see https://e-d-c.info/images/edc/documents/AutoID_URL_01-r221213.pdf). This already represents a solution for Automatic Identification of objects with access to their digital counterpart (Digital Twin) via the Internet and will become one of the modules in the joint activities that may well serve the public throughout the EU.
